Practice Overview
In a newly emerging energy market like Guyana and existing markets alike, having a robust, modern Energy, Oil & Gas, and Mineral Law code is critical to: facilitating responsible development of Guyana’s resources; ensuring consistency with international norms and best practices; and ensuring fairness to property owners, developers, producers, and indigenous rights.
The objective of CLF Guyana’s Regulatory & Policy Matters focus area is to assist Guyana and regional governments in developing (or updating) and implementing energy and oil & gas regulations and policies, tailored to local needs, goals, and requirements; that:
- Facilitate responsible and efficient natural resource development
- Provide clear and consistent guidelines to all stakeholders
- Ensure protection of the environment and indigenous rights
- Facilitate achievement of the goals of the State
- Provide appropriate redress for violations
- Are consistent with international best practices, norms, and rule of law, and
- Are fair to property owners, developers, producers, and indigenous rights
